❝Language is the road map of a culture. It tells you where its people come from and where they are going.❞

-Rita Mae Brown

Introduction

We are constantly introducing young people to the benefits of learning English, but we also need to dispel all the obstacles that young people face in acquiring a foreign language like English.
Sometimes the solutions are easier than they seem, but in this project I would like to go further. To improve the development of our young people in the valley, but it requires motivation and more support for the young people.  Finally, if they are motivated, it is considerable that learning will happen if the young person wants to learn, so that in the future they can get the benefits and advantages of acquiring English as a second language.

LACK OF INTEREST IN ENGLISH (STUDY) AMONG STUDENTS

In schools, especially high schools, there is a constant concern about the growing lack of interest in learning English on the part of young people today. Because even knowing that English opens an endless number of options for the future and diverse uses, students do not seem to be interested in the contents or value the great tool that is being offered to them, considering that English is a language that has overcome borders and has globalized in such a way that we find it in many aspects of our daily life. This means that in a short time speaking English will no longer be just a luxury but a necessity. In spite of all this, English, is still one of the subjects that is constantly failed in school.

According to Huui you must do things that are really important, but you must also have fun, because otherwise, you will not succeed.

In my research I found that it is better to do things having fun and even more so
when you want to learn, because when people are motivated they learn more. The result is that the young person remains willing to learn, combats the stress that is usually generated in the classroom, generates positive emotions that help the young person create affective links with the topics to be understood and remembered.

Analyzing the above information I found, one of my proposals to solve this problem would be an English summer camp where young people can have fun to teach them that there are new ways to learn. In a fun way, at the camp, they will be able to practice English during all the activities, workshops, sports and games we do, no longer in the context of a formal class. In this way, they will not feel forced to learn and will have fun having language training. Outside of a school environment they will feel the activities more relaxed and will see how important and necessary it is to communicate with others and relate the learning of this language to something positive.

This way they will learn to be more autonomous and resolute, and in addition, by having to make an effort to communicate in another language, this result is multiplied. As consequence they will realize that they are capable of overcoming this challenge and it will give them the self-confidence to face others, and with this.
They will improve their fluency and learn new vocabulary while having fun, break down language barriers and start speaking with more confidence. A camp like this will give them an English language immersion in a fun, enriching, learning way, the perfect opportunity for them to learn English in a fun and effortless way while gaining all the advantages for their personal development.

To achieve this we can raise this project to the big companies that are in the valley to give a place where the camp will take place, and also ask for help for half of the economic expenses for food and material to be used for the activities. Raise this to the community to have their help to get the other half with cooperation, sale of food, accessories, and raffles or ask for cooperation on the road, so that no young people with low resources are left out for not being able to pay.

As a result of my research, I came across the author Miriam Ruiz Baena (2020) who makes us consider new techniques for students to be consistent and advance in their learning of English, as she proposes that by performing attractive and original tasks, students will develop skills, feel confident to practice the language and, ultimately, learn more.
She also mentions something that reinforces my previously stated solution, Miss Baena recommends us to encourage interesting activities after the classes, because she believes that it is essential to carry out activities complementary to the classes that will help them enjoy their free time and, at the same time, learn to speak English. As she mentions that the ultimate goal is for students to spend more time studying English and also to enjoy learning English, as this will help them to be more motivated.

It is necessary to encourage the design in young people to learn to speak English, not just leave it in the classroom and let the teachers take care of it, but rather, as a community we can help our young people achieve English language proficiency.

Conclusion

It is important to emphasize that being the most spoken language in the world is indeed the most valuable development tool that has been provided to young people. However, it sometimes remains in the shadow of leisure. Where you should redirect young people to help them realize that it does not necessarily have to be tedious, if you present it in a more enjoyable and playful way. As a community, we can also help them by planting in them this design, and motivate them because we believe them competent to master this language.
